June 11 iPhone Release Questionable

It’s amazing how one phone call to Cingular could spark such a craze among iPhone fans. Search “iphone” on Google News today and you’ll see a ton of websites claiming the June 11 iPhone release date.

Just because a Cingular customer service person says iPhone will be released June 11 doesn’t necessarily mean it’s true. I called twenty five Cingular stores nationwide asking about iPhone’s release date, and not a single one told me June 11. In fact, some sales representatives told me May, July, and even “next month.”

The point is, although the iPhone may be coming out June 11, I wouldn’t take it as solid fact yet.

What 25 Cingular Reps Said About iPhone Release Date

I called 25 Cingular (now AT&T) stores around the United States today asking when the iPhone would be available. Of the 25 representatives I spoke with, none mentioned the June 11 release date that CNET claimed. Some reps said May, July, even “next month.”

Considering the responses I got from some of the people I spoke with, it’s possible the person who told CNET June 11 was just theorizing or didn’t know what he was talking about.

Decide for yourself. Here’s the list of the 25 Cingular stores I called and what they said (word for word) when I asked, “Do you know when the Apple iPhone will be available?”

iPhone Release Date: June 11… Maybe

A Cingular sales rep. told CNET that the iPhone will be released on June 11. There’s no real confirmation yet, but the date is also the first day of Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference, where, according to Engadget, “Steve and Co are always keen to announce new wares.”
